History of U.A. Local Union #29

February 16, 1907 a charter for Local Union #2 was reissued to Plumbers and Steamfitters of Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Local Union #2 was originally issued in December, 1889 to the Plumbers in the city of New York, where it remained until March, 1904.  The charter for Local #2 was held in the General Office until February. 1907.

In 1907 new Local Unions were allowed to accept charter members during the first six months on payment of a charter fee of one dollar.  This Local Union was started with thirteen members, twelve of whom paid the one dollar charter fee and one member who transferred in from Local Union 25 of Springfield, Missouri, J.C. Woltman, who is listed as the Financial Secretary of the newly chartered Local.

Local Union #2 was located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, from February 15, 1907 till November, 1939, at which time the charter for Local Union #29 was installed in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The charter for Local Union #2 was returned to New York where the merger of Local Union 463 and Auxiliary 463 was consummated.  These two groups were combined into Local Union #2, the original number issued to New York in December, 1889.

The charter for Local #29 was first issued to Anderson, Indiana.  It was returned to the General Office and issued to Pawtucket, Rhode Island on August 15, 1894, where it remained until January 1939.  It was installed in Fort Smith, Arkansas in November, 1939 where it remains today.
